The Dean's Welcome Note

“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all* the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." (Gen 1:26-28 NKJV)

So, since the creation, man is in charge of all of God’s creation. Engineering, which is the application of scientific principles and mathematics to solve real life world problems is at the centre of it, as it also involves coming up with innovations of new products and processes across a wide range of living and endeavours.

The University is the highest institution for training manpower generally and training engineering personnel particularly.

So, on behalf of all the staff of the Faculty of Engineering, Federal University Wukari, I welcome you into the University and into the Faculty of Engineering. Our motto is EXCELLENCE, and we will do all that is within our power to ensure that though you have come into the University and Faculty as a RAW MATERIAL, you will go out as an EXCELLENT PRODUCT, in all ramifications, in learning and character. For that to happen, I want to leave you with three short instructions:

1.      FEAR GOD, because the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Avoid both staff and students who say ‘there is no God’ because the consequences are grievious.

2.      FACE YOUR STUDIES and be diligent if you want to stand before very important people in society generally and in your chosen Engineering Profession in particular. Remember, that IS what has brought you into this University.

3.      CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS WISELY, so that you can be made and not marred in this University. Do not let anyone, staff or student mislead you, BAD COMPANY CORRUPTS GOOD CHARACTER.
